Strategy for preparing to take the GMAT

  • TIME - Give yourself plenty time to prepare for the test.
  • Use a book which guides you through the different types of question and refreshes your math knowledge.
  • Read as much in English as possible, particularly newspapers and business magazines. This will help you with the whole of the verbal section but particularly with reading comprehension and analytical writing.
  • Do one of the tests on the CD-ROM provided in your chosen book. Spend a good amount of time analysing the questions you got right and the ones you got wrong.
  • Practise, practise, practise!
  • Toward the time of the test use CDs - or do in-line practice tests which time you. It is very important to be able to work fast.
  • It is vital that you try to learn as much as possible from your exam practice. For example when practising sentence correction, keep a note of idioms or stylistic details, which are new to you. You never know what might come up in the exam so try to build up your language skills as much as possible. In the same way you need to keep a note of things you learn while working on the math section too. Go back later to the questions you found difficult and follow through the logic of why the right answer is correct and the others are wrong.
  • Take the test and succeed!
